Arsenal FC suffered a major setback in the Premier League title race after a 2–1 home defeat to AFC Bournemouth on Saturday.
The visitors stunned the Emirates crowd by taking the lead through Junior Kroupi, before Viktor Gyokeres equalised for Arsenal from the penalty spot later in the first half. Despite making several attacking changes after the break, Mikel Arteta’s side struggled to break down a lively Bournemouth team.
Bournemouth regained the advantage in the 74th minute when Alex Scott finished off a well-worked move, firing past goalkeeper David Raya. Arsenal pushed for an equaliser but failed to find a breakthrough, slipping to only their second home league defeat of the season.
The result boosts the hopes of Manchester City, who are chasing Arsenal at the top of the table. With six games remaining, the Gunners still hold a nine-point lead, but City have games in hand and could cut the gap significantly if results go their way.
Arsenal entered the match with momentum following a Champions League quarter-final first-leg win over Sporting CP, but they looked sluggish against an energetic Bournemouth side.
Kroupi opened the scoring in the 17th minute, capitalising on a deflected cross that fell kindly in the box. The 19-year-old forward’s goal continued his impressive debut season, placing him among notable young scorers in Premier League history.
Arsenal responded in the 35th minute when Gyokeres converted from the spot after a handball by Bournemouth captain Ryan Christie. However, despite second-half substitutions, including attacking reinforcements, the hosts lacked creativity and cutting edge.
Arteta’s side, who were recently in contention for multiple trophies, have now suffered key setbacks, including losses in domestic competitions. While they remain favourites for the league title, the pressure is mounting as Manchester City look to capitalise on any further slip-ups.
