President Bola Tinubu has mourned soldiers killed in a terrorist attack in Benisheikh, describing them as unforgettable heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation.
The fallen troops, drawn from the 29 Task Force Brigade under Operation HADIN KAI, lost their lives during a coordinated assault on their camp in Borno State. The Defence Headquarters confirmed the incident, which occurred in the early hours of Thursday, April 9, 2026.
In a statement, Tinubu expressed deep sorrow over the loss and extended condolences to the families of the deceased soldiers and the Nigerian military. He praised the bravery and resilience of the troops, noting that they fought gallantly to repel the attackers and prevent them from overrunning nearby communities.
The President said the attack reflects desperation on the part of insurgents, particularly Boko Haram, who have come under sustained military pressure through ongoing land and air offensives.
He urged the Armed Forces not to be discouraged by the incident, but to remain steadfast in their mission to defeat terrorism and restore peace across the country. Tinubu reassured troops that the Federal Government remains committed to supporting them with necessary equipment and improved welfare.
Describing the fallen soldiers as irreplaceable, Tinubu emphasised that their sacrifices would never be forgotten and would continue to inspire the nation’s resolve against insecurity.
He also called on Nigerians and the media to support the military’s efforts and avoid actions that could undermine morale, stressing that unity is essential in the fight against insurgency.
The President further extended his condolences to the government and people of Borno State, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to working closely with the state to achieve lasting peace and security.
