Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed on Thursday held a closed-door meeting with members of the House of Representatives from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, fuelling speculation about a possible defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The meeting comes amid growing indications that the governor is weighing his political options ahead of the next election cycle, with reports suggesting he may be considering a move to the ruling APC.

Speaking after the meeting, one of the federal lawmakers, who declined to be named, said the gathering was convened to deliberate on ongoing political realignments both nationally and within Bauchi State. He noted that discussions focused on recent developments and evolving alliances within the political landscape.

According to the lawmaker, the meeting ended on a positive note, with participants reaching preliminary conclusions. He added that further details of their deliberations would be made public in due course.

The development signals intensifying political manoeuvring in Bauchi, as key stakeholders reposition themselves ahead of future elections. Observers say such engagements could reshape party dynamics in the state if the governor eventually defects.

Sources also indicate that Mohammed recently held talks with stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress, further highlighting his ongoing consultations across party lines.

While neither the governor nor his aides have officially confirmed any defection plans, the series of high-level meetings has heightened interest in his next political move.

If confirmed, a defection by Mohammed could significantly alter the balance of power in Bauchi State and add momentum to broader realignments currently taking place across Nigeria’s political landscape.
