Confederation of African Football President Patrice Motsepe has called for unity and pledged to respect the final ruling of the Court of Arbitration for Sport over the विवाद surrounding the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title.
Motsepe made the remarks during a visit to Senegal, weeks after CAF’s Appeals Committee controversially awarded the 2025 AFCON title to Morocco despite the team losing 1-0 on the pitch in the final played on January 18.
The decision, which declared Morocco 3-0 winners, was based on claims that Senegal’s national team, the Teranga Lions, withdrew from the field during the match. The ruling sparked widespread backlash in Senegal, with authorities calling for an international investigation into alleged irregularities within CAF.
In response, the Senegalese Football Federation filed an appeal with CAS, escalating the dispute to the global stage.
Addressing the controversy, Motsepe acknowledged the sensitivity of the situation and emphasised that the matter is now firmly in the hands of CAS. He assured that CAF would fully comply with whatever verdict the tribunal delivers.
He also stressed the importance of unity within African football, noting that CAF’s broader focus remains on developing the sport across the continent and strengthening collaboration among member associations.
Motsepe’s visit to Senegal is seen as part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to ease tensions, with a similar visit to Morocco expected as CAF seeks to maintain stability while awaiting the final ruling.
