tragic incident has sparked outrage at Federal Government College Ikot Ekpene in Akwa Ibom State following the death of a 12-year-old student, Ufokobong Edwin Godwin, allegedly after being bullied by a senior colleague over provisions.

According to accounts from fellow students, the incident began during terminal examinations when a final-year student reportedly demanded food items from the younger student. When he refused, insisting he had little to share, the senior allegedly assaulted him, repeatedly hitting his neck. Witnesses claimed the victim fainted multiple times before help arrived.

The student was initially taken for medical attention after sustaining what was described as a neck injury. However, after regaining consciousness, he was returned to school and later went home for the Easter break without his parents being fully informed of the severity of the incident.

At home, his condition reportedly worsened as he began experiencing severe neck pain. His family initially treated him with pain relief medication, unaware of the underlying complications. When his condition deteriorated, he was rushed to the hospital, where he died on Easter Sunday. Medical findings later indicated that his death was linked to complications from blood clots in the neck region.

The incident has raised serious concerns about student safety, bullying, and oversight within boarding schools. Authorities are yet to release a full official report, though the police spokesperson in the state said investigations would be confirmed.

The school principal, Jude Ezeogu, described the situation as deeply unfortunate, noting that the institution is mourning the loss. He assured that the school management would review the circumstances surrounding the incident and communicate its findings.

Meanwhile, the bereaved family has called on the Federal Government to step in and ensure justice is served. The father of the deceased expressed grief and urged authorities to thoroughly investigate the matter.
