Trump Threatens 50% Tariffs on Countries Supplying Weapons to Iran

President Donald Trump has announced that any country found supplying military weapons to Iran will face a sweeping 50 percent tariff on all goods exported to the United States, warning that the measure will take immediate effect without exceptions.

Trump disclosed this in a post on his Truth Social platform on Wednesday, shortly after confirming a ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran. He stated that the policy is part of broader efforts to curb military support to Tehran and reinforce US strategic interests in the region.

In addition to the tariff threat, Trump reiterated that Iran would not be allowed to continue enriching uranium. He added that both countries would collaborate to remove nuclear materials allegedly buried following previous US airstrikes on Iranian facilities. The remarks appeared to reference earlier military actions involving US stealth bombers targeting key nuclear sites.

The announcement follows a period of heightened tensions that culminated in a temporary ceasefire aimed at de-escalating conflict in the Middle East. As part of the agreement, the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz—an essential route for global oil shipments—has been reopened after weeks of disruption.

In June 2025, US forces carried out coordinated strikes on major Iranian nuclear facilities located in Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan. Trump previously claimed that the operation significantly weakened Iran’s nuclear capabilities, although independent assessments of the damage remain unclear.

Before the strikes, the International Atomic Energy Agency reported that Iran had enriched uranium to levels far exceeding civilian requirements, raising concerns among Western nations about potential weapons development. While countries such as the United States and Israel have long accused Iran of pursuing nuclear arms, Tehran has consistently denied such intentions.

Trump also indicated that discussions surrounding tariff adjustments and possible sanctions relief could form part of ongoing engagement with Iran. However, he maintained a firm stance against any external military support for the country, emphasizing that violators would face immediate economic consequences under the new tariff regime.
