The Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru, who passed away in the early hours of Tuesday in Egypt.
In a condolence message, Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, described the loss as both painful and significant, extending beyond Kebbi State to the entire northern region and Nigeria’s democratic community.
In a statement issued by his Director-General of Press Affairs, Ismaila Uba Misilli, Yahaya paid glowing tribute to the late lawmaker, highlighting his contributions to governance and legislative development.
“The passing of Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru is a painful and monumental loss, not only to Kebbi State but to the entire northern region and Nigeria’s democratic and legislative community,” the statement read.
He described Zuru as a distinguished leader and accomplished legislator who played a stabilising role in governance, noting that his service was marked by dedication, humility, and a strong commitment to public good.
According to the NSGF chairman, the late Speaker’s legacy will continue to resonate through his contributions to democratic growth and the development of Kebbi State.
“Rt. Hon. Zuru distinguished himself through selfless service, dedication to democratic ideals, and unwavering loyalty to the progress and development of Kebbi State,” he added.
Yahaya extended condolences on behalf of the Forum to the Governor of Kebbi State, Nasir Idris, the immediate family of the deceased, members of the State House of Assembly, and the Zuru Emirate Council.
He also offered prayers for the repose of the late Speaker’s soul, asking Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.
The death of Zuru has drawn tributes from across the country, with many describing him as a committed public servant whose impact will be remembered for years to come.
