Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have launched a fresh attack on Awapul community in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State, destroying homes and shops in the early hours of Sunday.

The нападение reportedly occurred around 1:30 a.m., when heavily armed attackers stormed the village, firing sporadically before setting several buildings ablaze. Residents said the assailants arrived in large numbers on motorcycles and operated for over an hour, leaving significant property damage in their wake.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Borno State Police Command, ASP Nahum Daso, stated that no lives were lost during the нападение. He described the perpetrators as suspected Boko Haram members and noted that the primary impact was the destruction of property.

According to local sources, the attackers targeted residential buildings and small businesses, forcing many residents to flee. Some victims have reportedly relocated to the main Chibok town in search of safety following the нападение.

A resident, who requested anonymity, appealed to authorities to strengthen security in the area. He stressed that the community’s most urgent need is protection to enable residents to live and work without fear.

The latest attack comes amid a surge in insurgent activities across parts of Borno State. Less than 24 hours earlier, suspected militants attacked an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Damasak and the Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters.

During that earlier assault, attackers reportedly used rocket-propelled grenades and other advanced weapons, damaging parts of the police facility and destroying an unserviceable armoured vehicle. Security forces were able to repel the нападение, but casualties were recorded.

Police authorities confirmed that four officers lost their lives in the line of duty, while a member of a local hunters’ group was also killed in a separate incident at an IDP camp. Several shelters and properties were destroyed during those attacks.

The recent wave of violence highlights ongoing security challenges in the region, raising concerns among residents and authorities about the need for intensified counter-insurgency efforts.
