A fatal road accident at Soka Junction along the Ibadan–Lagos Expressway in Ibadan has left two people dead and several others injured.
The incident occurred late Saturday night at about 10:10 p.m. and involved multiple vehicles as well as pedestrians. Eyewitnesses reported that the crash caused significant disruption in the area, with emergency responders rushing to the scene to assist victims.
Preliminary reports indicate that a white HOWO truck, registered as Gombe GEM696XE, lost control and ploughed into other road users. The impact affected several vehicles, including a Toyota Venza and a BMW, both of which sustained severe damage. The force of the collision also struck pedestrians nearby, worsening the casualty count.
According to accounts from witnesses at the scene, the truck driver, identified as Abdullahi Bashiru, was allegedly driving at high speed before losing control of the vehicle. The resulting crash led to immediate fatalities and left multiple victims with varying degrees of injuries.
The incident was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, Olayinka Ayanlade. He stated that two individuals lost their lives in the accident, while others sustained injuries and were taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
He also noted that several vehicles were involved and damaged in the crash, highlighting the severity of the incident. The Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished those injured a speedy recovery.
Authorities have launched a full investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident and any potential liability. The police assured the public that appropriate action would be taken once investigations are concluded.
