Hajiya Hadiza Attahiru Jega, wife of former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Attahiru Jega, has passed away.
Her death was formally announced by Bayero University Kano, where Prof. Jega previously served as Vice-Chancellor. In a statement shared via its official social media platforms, the university expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing it as a moment of profound grief for the family and the wider academic community.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. With total submission to the will of Allah, we announce the passing of Hajiya Hadiza Attahiru Jega,” the statement read, reflecting the Islamic expression of condolence and acceptance of divine will.
According to the university, funeral arrangements have been concluded in line with Islamic rites. The Janazah (funeral prayer) is scheduled to take place immediately after the Zuhr prayer on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at the National Mosque Abuja. Family members, friends, associates, and sympathisers are expected to gather to pay their final respects and offer prayers for the deceased.
The institution also extended prayers for the repose of her soul, asking Allah to grant her Aljannatul Firdaus, the highest level of paradise in Islamic belief. It further prayed for divine forgiveness for any shortcomings and for strength and patience for the bereaved family during this difficult period.
Hajiya Hadiza Jega’s passing has drawn condolences from various quarters, particularly among those familiar with Prof. Jega’s contributions to academia and Nigeria’s electoral system.
