President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared a state of emergency on all security training institutions across Nigeria as part of renewed efforts to strengthen the nation’s internal security framework.
The move is aimed at addressing years of neglect and infrastructural decay within the facilities responsible for training personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and other paramilitary agencies.
The decision followed a nationwide assessment conducted by a special presidential committee led by Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah. The committee was mandated to review the condition of the training institutions and recommend urgent rehabilitation measures.
Under the directive, the Federal Government is expected to commence a comprehensive renovation, modernisation, and re-equipment of the affected institutions to align with international standards.
The emergency declaration forms part of the administration’s broader security reforms designed to enhance professionalism, operational efficiency, and accountability within the security sector.
The initiative also underscores the government’s commitment to building a safer environment to support its economic growth targets, including the vision of achieving a $1 trillion economy within the next five years.
The presidency is expected to receive the committee’s final report within 30 days, after which full implementation of the reform agenda will begin.
