The Adamawa State government has commenced the evacuation of its indigenes studying at the University of Jos following escalating insecurity in the city.
A statement issued on Saturday by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, Humwashi Wonosikou, said the operation is being carried out under heavy security, with police escorts ensuring the safe movement of students away from affected areas.
Wonosikou emphasized that the evacuation is a precautionary measure aimed at safeguarding the lives of Adamawa students amid the rising violence in Jos.
The latest insecurity incident occurred on the night of Friday, April 3, when gunmen attacked Nyango Gyel, a rural community in Jos South Local Government Area, killing three residents. Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers invaded the area around 10:40 pm, firing sporadically before fleeing into the night.
This attack is part of a series of violent incidents that have plagued Jos in recent days. According to DAILY POST, the unrest began on the evening of Palm Sunday, March 29, 2026, when gunmen targeted Angwan Rukuba, a busy community in Jos North Local Government Area, as residents were returning from church services.
The cumulative effect of these attacks has left more than 26 people dead and heightened fears among residents, prompting schools and local authorities to take urgent protective measures.
Governor Fintiri’s office stressed that the evacuation prioritizes student safety and is conducted in coordination with security agencies to minimize risk. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and advise students and residents to remain cautious while the security forces work to stabilize the affected areas.
The move highlights the growing concern over the security situation in Jos, which has repeatedly witnessed targeted attacks, causing displacement and fear among residents and students.
