Three people are feared dead and one injured following a fresh attack by unidentified gunmen in Nyamgo Gyel, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, raising concerns over worsening security in the region.
The victims, identified as Luka Sandu Pam (36), Samuel Davou (38), and Deme Saidu (35), were reportedly ambushed while returning home from Gero on a motorbike. Eyewitnesses told Channels Television that the victims were part of a group of about 15 youths coming from a mining site when the attack occurred.
Dung Davou, the Gyel Youth Leader, said the assailants, suspected to be armed herdsmen, opened fire on the group, prompting the victims and others to scatter. “We started hearing sporadic gunshots, and everyone scattered. Unfortunately, three of our people were killed,” he said.
Davou urged authorities to urgently intervene, describing the incident as yet another unprovoked attack on the community.
This latest incident follows a similar violent attack last Sunday in Plateau State, where at least 10 people were killed and several others injured when heavily armed gunmen attacked Angwan Rukuba community in Jos North Local Government Area, highlighting ongoing security challenges in the state.
