Businesses have been directed to replace faulty goods or provide adequate compensation to affected consumers, in line with existing consumer protection laws.
The General Manager of the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA), Mr Afolabi Solebo, made this known in a statement issued on Saturday in Lagos. The statement was signed by the agency’s Assistant Director of Public Affairs, Mr Rufai Adesile.
Solebo emphasised that businesses have a responsibility to ensure that products offered to the public are safe, reliable, and meet established regulatory standards. He noted that prompt replacement of defective goods or appropriate compensation is essential in maintaining consumer trust.
According to him, consumer confidence is built on the availability of high-quality products that meet safety requirements and perform as expected. He stressed that failure to meet these standards not only undermines trust but also violates consumer rights.
The LASCOPA boss encouraged consumers to report any grievances through the agency’s official complaint channels, assuring that all cases would be treated with due diligence.
He reiterated the agency’s commitment to protecting consumers from exploitation and ensuring fairness in the marketplace.
“Consumers have the right to seek redress when they are sold defective, substandard, or unsafe products,” he said.
Solebo added that LASCOPA would continue to enforce compliance among businesses while promoting awareness of consumer rights across Lagos State.
