Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Buba Marwa, has underscored the strategic importance of the agency in global efforts to combat drug trafficking and abuse. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency commonly abbreviated as NDLEA is Nigeria’s primary body responsible for combating illicit drug production, trafficking and consumption.
Marwa stated that Nigeria’s position as a transit and destination country makes the agency’s role critical in international counter narcotics operations. He noted that collaboration with global partners has strengthened intelligence sharing and improved operational effectiveness.
According to him, the NDLEA has recorded significant successes in recent years, including major drug seizures, arrests of traffickers and disruption of organised criminal networks. He added that the agency’s activities contribute not only to national security but also to global stability.
Observers note that drug trafficking remains a major transnational crime, often linked to other forms of organised criminal activity such as human trafficking and terrorism financing.
Stakeholders have called for sustained investment in law enforcement capacity, including technology, training and international cooperation.
Experts highlight that tackling drug abuse also requires preventive measures, including public awareness campaigns and rehabilitation programmes.
The development underscores Nigeria’s commitment to playing an active role in global security efforts.
Analysts believe that strengthening partnerships and maintaining operational efficiency will be key to sustaining progress in the fight against наркотics.
