The Lagos State Police Command has presented over N53 million to families of officers who died in the line of duty, reaffirming its commitment to personnel welfare and community policing.
The presentation took place during a high-level stakeholders’ meeting held in Lagos to mark the 2026 National Police Day. The event brought together members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), the Eminent Persons Forum, community and religious leaders, and representatives of the National Youth Council of Nigeria.
Speaking at the gathering, Commissioner of Police Fatai Olaiwola Tijani commended stakeholders for their continued support in enhancing public safety and crime prevention. He stressed the need for deeper collaboration between the police and the public to effectively address security challenges across the state.
Tijani highlighted the importance of timely information sharing and swift responses to emergencies, noting that stronger partnerships would improve law enforcement outcomes. He also identified key security concerns such as cultism and electoral violence, assuring that the Command would continue to adopt intelligence-led strategies and modern policing techniques.
A major highlight of the event was the disbursement of N53,387,209.48 to families of fallen officers under the Inspector-General of Police Family Welfare Scheme. The initiative, according to the Command, underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to supporting the families of personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice in service.
Beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the financial assistance, noting that it would help alleviate the challenges faced by families left behind.
Reiterating the Force’s commitment, the Commissioner assured that the sacrifices of fallen officers would always be honoured, adding that ongoing support for their families remains a priority.
