The Federal Government has issued a firm directive to heads of agencies under the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, calling for strict accountability and improved performance outcomes.
Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, gave the warning during the signing of performance bonds with agency heads at a ministerial management retreat held in Lagos, alongside the 2026 first-quarter stakeholders’ engagement.
Oyetola stressed that all departments and agencies must prioritise the delivery of measurable and impactful results, noting that the era of routine operations without accountability is over. He explained that the performance bonds are not symbolic but binding commitments that will be closely monitored and rigorously assessed.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser, Dr. Bolaji Akinola, the minister underscored the importance of adopting data-driven decision-making processes, as well as establishing effective monitoring and evaluation systems to track progress.
He further urged all agencies to align their activities with the Ministry’s broader strategic goals, ensuring that their operations contribute meaningfully to national economic development through the marine and blue economy sector.
The agencies affected by the directive include the Nigerian Ports Authority, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Nigerian Shippers’ Council, National Inland Waterways Authority, Maritime Academy of Nigeria, and the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria.
The move signals the government’s push to enforce greater efficiency, transparency, and performance across key maritime institutions.
