The Accountant-General of Nasarawa State, Musa Mohammed, has resigned from his position to contest the 2027 governorship election under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Mohammed made the announcement on Monday during a rally in Lafia, where he formally declared his intention to vie for the state’s top political office. He said the decision followed sustained appeals from residents urging him to run for governor.

“I have decided to sacrifice my stay in the office of the Accountant-General of Nasarawa State in response to your calls. I have resigned my appointment. I appreciate Governor Abdullahi Sule for approving my resignation to enable me pursue this ambition,” Mohammed stated. “I hereby accept your call and offer myself to contest the 2027 governorship election with your support.”

He pledged to build on the achievements of the current administration if elected, noting that his experience within the government has prepared him for the task. “I will do my best to consolidate on the successes recorded by the administration of Governor Abdullahi Sule. Having been part of this government, I have learned from the governor’s leadership capacity, resourcefulness, and vision, and I assure you that I will not disappoint,” he added.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mohammed was appointed Accountant-General in 2023 by Governor Sule. Prior to this, he served as Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly for two consecutive terms between 2007 and 2015.

Observers say Mohammed’s resignation and declaration mark a significant development in Nasarawa politics, signaling early moves by potential candidates as preparations for the 2027 elections gain momentum. His tenure in government and legislative experience are expected to play a key role in shaping his campaign and political appeal across the state.
