Rev. Sunday Bobai Agang, a prominent pastor of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) and chairman of its Board of Trustees (BoT), has regained his freedom following his abduction from his residence in Farin Gada, Jos North Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State.
The development was confirmed by ECWA’s Acting Public Relations Officer, Danjuma Auta, who spoke to our correspondent in Jos. In a statement, Auta announced that Rev. Agang has been released from his abductors and is currently safe.
“We wish to announce with immense gratitude and joy the release of our dear pastor, Rev. Prof. Sunday Bobai Agang, who was abducted by unknown gunmen. We are delighted to confirm that he has regained his freedom and is currently safe,” the statement read.
The church expressed profound gratitude to God Almighty for answering the fervent prayers of the ECWA family and the global Church of Christ. It described the pastor’s release as a testament to God’s faithfulness and the power of collective prayer, while appreciating all members and brethren who stood in prayer during the trying period.
While rejoicing at the safe return of Rev. Agang, ECWA highlighted that his ordeal underscores the persistent insecurity in the country. “The rising wave of kidnapping, which has sadly become a means of livelihood for some, is a threat to our collective existence and must be addressed urgently,” the statement added.
The church further called on government authorities at all levels to fulfil their constitutional responsibility of protecting the lives and properties of every Nigerian. “It is imperative that decisive and sustained actions be taken to dismantle the criminal networks behind these heinous acts and restore peace and security across the country,” ECWA stressed.
ECWA also affirmed its continued prayers for the peace of Nigeria and the safety of all citizens. The abduction, which occurred on Tuesday morning, sent shockwaves through the Plateau State community and drew widespread concern from members of the church and the public.
The safe return of Rev. Agang has brought relief to the ECWA family and serves as a reminder of both the resilience of faith in the face of adversity and the urgent need for strengthened security measures nationwide. Authorities are yet to provide details on the circumstances surrounding the release or any progress in apprehending those responsible for the kidnapping.
