The Kano State Government has taken responsibility for the medical care of a woman, Hafsatu Yusuf, who recently gave birth to quintuplets at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Ministry of Health, Nabilusi Abubakar. According to the statement, Hafsatu delivered five babies—three boys and two girls—and both the mother and her children are currently receiving intensive medical care from a team of doctors and healthcare workers.
The intervention by the state government comes as a relief to the family, particularly given their financial situation. Hafsatu’s husband, Salisu Nufiu, a tricycle rider, expressed gratitude for the support, noting that it arrived at a critical time for the family.
Officials stated that the gesture is part of broader efforts by the government to strengthen healthcare delivery across the state. Emphasis is being placed on improving maternal and child health outcomes, especially among low-income households.
The government also reiterated its commitment to reducing mortality rates among mothers and newborns, while expanding access to quality healthcare services. It assured residents that similar support initiatives will continue as part of ongoing reforms aimed at building a more inclusive and responsive healthcare system.
