A cleric and member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ahmed Tijjani Umar, has dismissed reports alleging that he was detained by the Department of State Services (DSS), clarifying that he was only invited for questioning and subsequently released.

Addressing the development, Umar stated that the claims circulating on social media were inaccurate. He explained that he honoured the invitation by security operatives, cooperated fully during the interaction, and was allowed to leave without any form of detention.

“I am speaking today to correct the false report that is circulating. I was not detained by the DSS. I was invited for questioning. I cooperated fully and I was released. I am free, I am safe and I am well,” he said.

The cleric used the opportunity to call for calm among his supporters and residents of Kaduna State, urging them to maintain peace and refrain from actions that could destabilize the state. He stressed the importance of law and order, warning against any form of unrest carried out in the name of loyalty or support.

“I want to appeal to all our supporters and to all citizens of Kaduna State to remain calm, remain peaceful and remain law-abiding citizens. No one should take the law into his hands. No one should create disorder in the name of loyalty,” he added.

Umar also addressed the ongoing situation involving former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, urging the public to allow due process to run its course without interference or speculation.

He further advised Nigerians who are dissatisfied with the current political system to channel their concerns through democratic means, particularly by participating actively in elections and choosing credible leadership.

The cleric concluded with a message of unity and prayer for peace in Kaduna State, reaffirming his commitment to lawful engagement and civic responsibility.
