Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday stormed a residence belonging to former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, in Maitama, Abuja, as part of ongoing moves to secure the property’s forfeiture.

The operation, reportedly led by EFCC official Folarin Dare, saw heavily armed personnel deployed to the scene in no fewer than five buses. Witnesses said the operatives quickly took control of the area, barricading the road leading to the property and restricting movement within the vicinity.

The residence, located at No. 2 Koranakh Close, off Amazon Street in the upscale Maitama district, was effectively sealed off during the operation. Access to the building and surrounding streets was denied as security personnel maintained a strong presence to enforce the action.

Sources indicate that the development is linked to an ongoing investigation into alleged financial misconduct involving the former AGF. While specific details of the allegations remain undisclosed, the EFCC’s move to take over the property suggests a significant escalation in the case, particularly in efforts to recover assets suspected to have been acquired through illicit means.

As of the time of filing this report, neither Malami nor his representatives have issued an official statement regarding the incident. Similarly, the EFCC has yet to release a detailed public briefing outlining the full scope of the operation or the legal basis for the forfeiture process.

The incident has drawn attention due to Malami’s high-profile role in Nigeria’s previous administration, where he served as the country’s chief law officer. Developments surrounding the case are expected to generate considerable public and legal interest in the coming days, especially as investigations progress and more details emerge.

Authorities are likely to face increased scrutiny as Nigerians await clarity on the allegations and the outcome of the EFCC’s actions.
