Thirty-eight members of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Oke Isegun, Eruku, in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, who were abducted during last Tuesday’s deadly bandit attack, have regained their freedom.
Family sources and community leaders confirmed late Sunday that the victims were released after days of intense negotiations and coordinated search operations by local vigilantes and security agencies. Although authorities have not disclosed whether any ransom was paid, residents said the victims were freed in a forested area near the Kwara–Kogi boundary.
The attack, which shook the quiet agrarian community, occurred during an evening worship session, leaving several worshippers injured and the church auditorium blood-stained. While the police have yet to issue a detailed update, officials of the church held a special service earlier on Sunday, praying for the safety and recovery of the abducted members.
A senior church representative confirmed the development, describing the victims’ return as “an answer to prayers and a relief to the entire congregation.” He added that the church is still mourning members who were killed during the assault.
Security agencies have reportedly intensified surveillance in the area, with residents calling for stronger protection and faster government intervention to prevent further attacks.
