President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, members of his cabinet, 32 state governors, and 8,453 delegates from across Nigeria are set to participate in the National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Eagle Square, Abuja. The convention will also be attended by party leaders at the national, zonal, state, and ward levels, where new party executives are expected to emerge.
The Co-Chairman of the Media Sub-Committee for the convention and Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, revealed this during the APC World Media Briefing held at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, on Thursday. Other attendees include the Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo; Vice Chairman of the Central Committee, Pius Ayim; Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Chief Sunday Dare; and Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, among other senior party chieftains.
Idris explained that the convention theme, “Unity in Progress: Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda,” reflects the party’s identity, achievements, and future direction. “The convention aims to bring together delegates from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory for policy engagement, leadership elections, and a formal transition to new party executives. It is a platform for decision-making, reflection, consolidation, and direction-setting for the next phase of our journey,” he said.
He emphasised that the Renewed Hope Agenda guides policy, national development, and engagement with citizens’ aspirations, and that the convention will deepen its integration within the party and government structures. Idris assured that all arrangements had been finalised for a smooth, transparent, and credible convention, with 25 sub-committees overseeing coordination and operational efficiency.
Chairman of the APC National Convention Central Coordinating Committee, former Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari, reiterated that the party operates according to zoning arrangements, confirming no litigation was affecting the convention. He noted that offices are zoned to ensure compliance with federal character principles and cautioned against attempts to disrupt the process.
Ahead of the convention, some members raised concerns about exclusion. Party chieftain Fubara Dagogo filed a complaint at the Federal High Court in Abuja over his exclusion from the South-South Zonal Congress in Asaba, despite fulfilling all requirements, while Paul Oyiborume made similar allegations, though he has not yet approached the court. Dagogo indicated he would seek redress through internal party mechanisms.
The APC convention is therefore poised to serve as both a platform for leadership renewal and a reaffirmation of the party’s unity, structures, and guiding agenda under President Tinubu.
