Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that political stakeholders in Rivers State do not require the backing of a governor to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike made the statement on Saturday during the inauguration of the Port Harcourt office of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, a pro-Tinubu support group operating in the state.
According to the minister, local political actors possess the structure, influence and capacity needed to organise and sustain support for the President without relying on any state governor.
“We are working for President Tinubu. We don’t need a governor to mobilise us. We have what it takes to operate independently,” Wike said.
He highlighted the presence of elected and party officials across party lines, including senators, members of the National Assembly, state Assembly members, local government chairmen, and party chairmen from both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Wike emphasised that genuine political loyalty must be rooted in personal conviction rather than external direction.
“We have mobilised ourselves to demonstrate our commitment because true support doesn’t need to be brought by someone — you have to make the commitment yourself,” he stated.
The minister added that the gathering of political leaders at the event signalled unity and deliberate alignment with President Tinubu’s administration. He described the development as evidence that Rivers stakeholders are taking proactive steps to declare their support.
His remarks come amid ongoing political realignments in Rivers State and growing discussions around early positioning for the 2027 presidential election.
