Activist and human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has alleged that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State is positioning himself to replace Nyesom Wike as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in 2027.

Adeyanju made the claim while describing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a mere distraction in Nigeria’s political landscape. Speaking in a video shared on his social media platforms, he asserted that many members of the PDP are quietly working in favor of President Bola Tinubu.

He said, “PDP is a distraction; what is dead may never die again. I don’t want to bother myself about PDP now because everybody there is working for Tinubu. They are just looking for who will have the most bargaining chip. Seyi Makinde wants to replace Wike and maybe he will become the next FCT minister in 2027. So he is more or less how we will make Tinubu come back in 2027. I will not join them in their caricature; I don’t have their time.”

Adeyanju’s comments come amid growing speculation about political maneuvering within the PDP as the 2027 general elections approach. While the party remains one of the two major political forces in Nigeria, critics like Adeyanju argue that internal conflicts and hidden alliances have weakened its position, particularly in relation to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

By highlighting Makinde’s alleged ambitions, Adeyanju suggested that some PDP leaders may be more focused on personal political advancement rather than strengthening the party’s influence. According to him, these dynamics have created opportunities for politicians who align with the ruling administration to gain strategic positions in the next government.

Although the PDP has not responded to Adeyanju’s claims, the comments have intensified debates about potential power shifts and ministerial appointments in 2027. Political analysts note that speculations like this often emerge well before election cycles, reflecting underlying jockeying for influence among key political figures.

Adeyanju concluded by emphasizing that he would not engage in what he described as political distractions within the PDP. Instead, he expressed his focus on broader governance issues, leaving the internal party dynamics and alleged ambitions of its members to unfold without his participation.
