The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially dismissed a viral report claiming to list the prices of its expression of interest and nomination forms for the upcoming 2027 general elections, calling it “fake news” aimed at misleading the public.
In a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, clarified that no decision has been made regarding the cost of electoral forms for the next election cycle. He described the viral report as a product of “mischievous imagination” and urged members, the media, and the general public to disregard it entirely.
“The APC states categorically that the report is fake and did not emanate from the Party,” Morka said. “To be clear, no decision or announcement has been made on the sale or pricing of forms for the 2027 elections. The report is a mere figment of the writer’s mischievous imagination. We urge Party members, the media, and the general public to disregard the report in its entirety.”
The viral message circulating on WhatsApp claimed that the cost of the presidential nomination and expression of interest forms would be N200 million, while forms for the State Assembly were purportedly set at N20 million.
During the 2023 election cycle, the APC faced intense public scrutiny for setting the presidential nomination form at N100 million, a move that sparked debates about the affordability of political participation and the inclusiveness of Nigeria’s democratic process.
Political analysts suggest that misinformation about party nomination costs can exacerbate public mistrust in the electoral system and highlight the need for verified communication from political parties. The APC’s swift response is aimed at curbing the spread of false information and ensuring that members are not misled by unverified reports circulating on social media platforms.
As Nigeria prepares for the 2027 elections, political parties are expected to release official guidelines and pricing for nomination forms in due course. Until such announcements are made, any claims regarding the cost of APC forms should be treated with skepticism.
